Hoyts-MCA/Universal Home Video (Australia)

1st Logo
(1990-1997)

Logo: Over a black background, we see the following words:

HOYTS-MCA
UNIVERSAL
H O M E V I D E O

The logo shines, but after a second, a globe fades in behind the logo, and the starfield fades in, which is serving as "MCA" is replaced by "MC/\". The logo "shines" again.

FX: The fades in, the shining.

Music/Sounds: None

Availability: Seen on Australian video releases of the era.

Scare Factor: None

2nd Logo
(1994-1997)

Nickname: "Airplane Passing Globe" (not the early Universal logo), "The Filmstrips", "Rotating Globe"

Logo: On a space background, we see an airplane passing over the globe, as usual, posed against on screen. Suddenly, these rainbow filmstrips are falling over the logo before the sky added. Over the globe, we see these words revealed across it:

HOYTS-MC/\
UNIVERSAL

A few seconds later, a red orange yellow gradient fire forms the words "HOME VIDEO" underneath, with a line above it.

Variants: There are two variations of this logo. The first one is the short version in which the airplane and filmstrips are cut out. The second one is the still version of the logo without music.

FX: The airplane passing globe, the transition from black and white to colour.

Cheesy Factor: You know the airplane is from the '20s globe, but nice CGI animation, though.

Music/Sounds: The 10 second Back to the Future open theme playing again before the words place themselves.

Availability: First seen on an Australian PAL tape of The Little Rascals film adaptation from 1994 (the short version).
